Update WordPress

“Give a man a fish, and he will be hungry again to-morrow; teach him to catch a fish, and he will be richer all his life.”

How to update a WordPress site designed by Giant

You can click on any image to make it larger.

1. Login to your Flywheel hosting site.

If you don’t have your password, please do a password reset.

https://app.getflywheel.com/

2. Click on your site to access the dashboard.

3. Next we need to create a backup at the host level so that if anything goes wrong, we can login here and restore the backup quickly and easily.

4. Click on “Create New Backup.”

5. Name your backup.

I like to call mine “Before WordPress Updates.”

6. You’ll see that your backup is in progress. You must wait until this screen tells you that the backup is complete.

7. Once the backup is complete, you’ll see the new backup at the top of the page with todays date and the name you gave the backup.

8. Login to your ManageWP.com site.

If you don’t have your password, please do a password reset.

9. Once you’re logged in to ManageWP you’ll be taken to the dashboard. There is a wealth of information about your WordPress site here.

To update the site, simply click on “Update All.”

10. The system will ask you to verify if you want to “Update All.”

Click “Yes.”

11. From here you’ll see the system working on the updates.

12. Once the update is complete, you’ll see this message.

13. Immediately go and check your site. Click on all links, look at it on your phones, test everything you can. This is the time to catch an error.

How to revert to the last backup

Perform this step if, and ONLY IF your site does not look or respond as expected.

1. Login to your Flywheel hosting site.

https://app.getflywheel.com/

2. Click on your site to access the dashboard.

3. Locate your most rest backup. Mouseover the three dots to expand the options. Click on “Restore”

The system will say it’s busy restoring your site. You will get an email when your site has been restored.

Check your site again.
